#ALLEGIANT Sales 455K Copies in One Day!

image

Publisher’s Weekly is reporting that Veronixa Roth’s Allegiant, the final book in the Divergent trilogy, sold 455, 000 book on the day that it was released!

Allegiant did exceptionally well on pre-sale orders and even beat out Suzanne Collins’ Mockingjay.

In what seemd to be largest ever first day sale figure for HarperCollins, Veronica Roth’s YA novel Allegiant sold 455,000 copies globally across all formats on its publication day, October 22. The book had an announced two-million-copy first printing.

Anticipation mounted in the month leading to the publication of the final installment in Roth’s Divergent trilogy. Preorders set house records, and bookstores across the country hosted midnight publication parties to celebrate the book’s release. Despite a handful of readers who, due to a shipping error at Indigo Books in Canada, received copies of the book three weeks early, online spoilers were kept to a minimum until the pub date.

Huge congrats to you Veronica Roth!

Publisher’s Weekly reveals detailed information about FOUR short stories including paperback, Divergent Movie tie-in books and more!

Publisher’s Weekly just shared more brand new information about the FOUR stories.

HarperCollins will release the first one – centering on Four (a.k.a. Tobias) at age 16 – will come out on September 24, just before the October 22 release of the hardcover of Allegiant, the final installment of the Divergent trilogy.

Like the other three forthcoming e-short stories, this one – called The Transfer – will be 30 pages and priced at $1.99. The others (The Initiate, The Son, and The Traitor) will come out December 17, January 21, and February 11.

“The e-shorts will address Tobias’s backstory and some of the mysterious things going on in the world before Tris chose Dauntless,” Roth said. “Together, they form a kind of Tobias-centered Divergent prequel, though there is some overlap.”

Looking Back, Moving Forward

The 10,000-word format for the prequels, which Tegen suggested, appealed to Roth. “The e-shorts are a way for me to delve into another character’s voice and personality and history, which is fun and exciting for me as a writer,” she said. “And I also wanted a way to kind of ease my way out of the series. The Divergent universe has been my world for a long time, and writing it has changed my life in pretty drastic ways. Now that the third book is nearly finished, the e-shorts are helping me to say good-bye.”

And Four – a fan favorite – makes that farewell easier. “In my mind, he has a distinct history and a complex psychology, so there’s always a lot to draw from when he’s on the page, and it’s an opportunity for me to break from Tris’s sparse, straightforward voice and try to introduce just a little bit more poetic language,” Roth said. “I also know, from many tweets and blog comments and in-person comments, that Divergent readers are interested in hearing more of his voice, which made him an obvious candidate! My readers have given me so much enthusiasm and honesty and wisdom. The opportunity to write something that I knew they wanted to read was really appealing to me.”

If you don’t have an e-reader you will be able to purchase the FOUR stories in paperback in February.

Fans of print won’t have to miss out: next February, HarperCollins will release an $8.99 paperback bind-up of the four e-novellas and Free Four (Four’s 13-page retelling of the knife-throwing scene, published digitally last year), as well as a $17.99 hardcover and a $9.99 paperback movie tie-in edition of Divergent.

Veronica Roth shares detailed information about the FOUR short stories collection!

Veronica Roth has just shared more information on the FOUR short stories collection. All of the short stories including Free Four, will be published in one paperback in February in the US.

More Info about the Four Short Stories Collection

So, I announced the other day that there will be four short stories written from Four’s perspective coming out later this year, yay! And I got some questions about them that I’d like to answer here.

First, here is an article on Publisher’s Weekly about the short story collection in which I give more juicy details: here.

And now, your questions:

Q: What are the official titles?

The Transfer

The Initiate

The Son

The Traitor

Q: When do they take place?

I talk about this a little bit in the interview linked above, but I’ll say it again here: these stories mostly address Tobias’s backstory and some mysterious things happening in his world before Tris joins Dauntless. There will be some overlap with Divergent’s timeline, though.

Q: Are these only e-books?

I addressed concerns about what to do if you don’t have an e-reader here. The stories will be released individually as e-shorts and then in a collection with Free Four in paperback in February (in the US, at least— not sure how that will work outside the US because it’s up to each publisher). So how you choose to read them kind of depends on how long you want to wait!

More info on the collection: Four: A Short Story Collection

Q: Will the stories be available internationally?

I hope so! We’re working on getting them licensed to as many countries as possible.

Q: Wait, are these novellas? Books? Or just stories?

I would describe them as meaty short stories. They will each be approximately 10,000 words long. (For reference, Divergent is 105,000 words long.)

I think that is all. Thank you all for your enthusiasm about these, I can’t wait for you to read them.

Initiates are you ready to read more from Four’s POV?
